Will Augmented Reality Become the New Standard for E-Commerce?

Having developed and worked on the bleeding edge of Augmented Reality for over 10 years, it’s interesting to see the future for e-commerce being explored with this post.

From Irina Strilets, Published July 13, 2012:

Augmented Reality for Shoppers?

“Augmented reality has become a new, hip word in the world of e-commerce and social media marketing, but one question is still up in the air: will augmented reality change e-commerce for good? Industry experts are currently on both sides of the fence when it comes to determining the overall impact of AR and e-commerce. Nevertheless, those diving into the online sales industry see augmented reality as a practical solution that will soon greatly impact the future of e-commerce.”

  1. Reblogged this on Tech News and commented:
It might change it with time. I would use the analogy of introducing a new product. At the beginning, you have an introduction phase where early adopters start testing the product, then the growth phase where the product grows fast and is adopted by a larger portion of the population. Then when we get used to it we might feel it as a necessity and make it part of our daily life. It’s like facebook or cell phones.

  2. Thank you, Jad, for your insightful comment! I might add that the early adoption phase for AR has been going on for almost 20 years. With the advent of powerful mobile computing platforms (i.e. cell phones), new applications and use cases for AR have emerged. AR brand advertising and engagement seems to be leading the charge, but I’ve yet to see a real compelling use of the technology that will reach a broader consumer market. Gaming may be the first to truly achieve broad adoption.
